Why Mind Body Psychotherapy?

  • The mind and body are closely connected -- thoughts, feelings, and physical experiences interact in many ways. While these connections can contribute to problems such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, they also can be utilized to improve mental and physical health.
  • Thoughts about yourself, others, and situations have a strong influence on both your feelings and behavior.  Finding more effective ways of thinking is a powerful way to achieve desired changes.
  • The way you react to emotions and bodily sensations, either ignoring or magnifying them, can lead to difficulties. Learning a curious, mindful way of responding offers a more helpful way to manage feelings.
  • Connecting with your feelings and listening to your body provides valuable information that helps you understand what is keeping you stuck and what you need to do to take care of yourself and move forward in your life.
  • Developing healthy self-care behaviors is another way to take advantage of the mind-body connection. Examples are eating and exercising in healthy ways, and engaging in activities that elicit the relaxation response.
  • Learning effective ways to connect mind and body and to integrate thinking and feeling can help with solving problems, changing behavior, and experiencing greater calmness, well-being, and life satisfaction.
